A New Look!

Many of you have seen the beautiful new look that Jacob is sporting these days. But for those of you who read my blog this ones for you! What was suppose to be a relaxing day at home on Friday turned very eventful fast! Madison was out of school for a school holiday so we were sleeping in and sporting PJ's for the day. I had just cleaned up breakfast and the kids were playing in Madison's room (which is rare for her to allow him in but it was no ordinary day!). I was in the laundry room when I heard something hit Madison's bed. Madison comes out and says that Jacob hit her bed. Well, that is not out of the ordinary for him to run into something. So I just kind of brushed it off for a moment to finish what I was doing. When Jacob rounds the corner crying and gushing blood from his forehead. I don't think you really truly know how you will react to this kind of trauma until it happens to you. For me I just picked him up (after a brief moment of this can't be happening to me!)and took him to the kitchen and laid him on the counter to start the process of stopping the blood. I thought it would never stop...I have heard that head injuries cause lots of bleeding but until you experience it you can't imagine. It was truly like a faucet you could not turn off. Finally, it did clot and I ran to my room with him in my arms to change. I called our Pediatrician and they sent me straight to the ER (they don't do sutures in office). This is our first visit with Jacob to the ER. So I had no idea what to expect. But I was pleasantly impressed. It did take most of the day to be seen and sutured up but everyone was wonderful. We did have to have a plastic surgeron suture him up because of the severity of it and the location. We would like to minimize the scaring as much as possible. He was a real trooper. I had Madison with me and I am glad I brought her. I had a good friend from church (Cheryl) offer to come pick her up but I wanted both of my kids with me at that point. (Thank you Cheryl for offering and helping get where I needed to go!) I could not stay when they sutured Jacob up because they needed him to lay very still and they were going to restrain him. I lost it with tears for the first time that day when I had to leave him. He was crying too but he did calm down and laid very still for them! Madison consoled me in the ER waiting room while I cried. She is so wonderful. She even cleaned up the blood on the the floor in the house without me asking her. Thank you Madison! I am so proud of you! Jacob received 15 stitches inside the wound and then another 15 stitches on the outside. WOW! You really know how to do it up right Jacob! Here is your first battle scar! Congratulations! Let's try to limit it to one! :)

I have to say that I was very impressed at how calm you were when you called me. His stitches look really good! I bet they will heal nicely. I'm just so thankful that he is alright. Note to self: stay away from the Smith house in the month of November. Just kidding! :)

I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I don't want to imagine how awful it was! Sounds like he was a real trooper and it is nice to know you have such a helpful little girl to help in times of great distress!
