Trip to SA

Well, I thought I had the master plan for getting out of the city on Friday and getting to SA by 8pm. I checked Madison out of school early and headed on down the road at 12:30pm. This would allow me to miss the Ft. Worth rush hour traffic and the Austin rush hour traffic. However, even the best laid plans are not that best laid! We made great time to Ft. Worth with the exception of the speed trap in OK. I escaped it by one car link! :) I have been known to have a lead foot. I was coasting along towards Ft. Worth when right before the heart of Ft. Worth the fast moving traffic became a virtual parking lot. This parking lot went on for 1 1/2 hours. Yes we moved at a snails pace from the edge of Ft. Worth just past the I-20 interchange. Naturally, Jacob had already had his first short nap prior to this parking lot. And Madison (who never takes a nap) was wide awake too. They kept asking me if we were getting closer to Nana and Papa's. I kept saying every mile puts us closer. Not exactly what they wanted to hear. :) During our hour and a half cruise through Ft. Worth Jacob decides he needs to go to the bathroom. Well, being the planned freak that I am I did plan for this to happen. Here I am in 6 lanes of traffic in the middle lanes with no opening in sight to get over and then once I got over not an exit in sight. So I asked Madison to unbuckle and let her brother out of his seat so he could use the little potty chair I brought (yes, I saved our potty chair for moments like these!). Jacob went and Madison decided she needed to go so she went got both of them buckled back in and during this whole ordeal we moved maybe one car link. I am watching the clock tick by and thinking I am never going to get to SA before dark. Finally, we gained some ground once we got past the I-20 interchange. The kids were excited and hoping only a few more minutes and we would be at Nana and Papa's. Madison asked if we could just find a drive-thru for dinner and eat in the car so we could keep going! I was all excited about that. However, I think everyone and their dog were thinking the same McDonald's in Waco. We sat in the drive -thru for 30 minutes (I know you are thinking why didn't you just go inside...well it was just as bad inside.). So once again the clock is ticking away and we are not making good time. We arrived in Austin at 8:30pm. That is absolutely the best time to hit Austin as far as traffic. I sailed right through. We arrived in SA at 10:15pm. I was exhausted and the kids were wide awake because they had fallen asleep right before Austin. So we got into bed at 2am. Yes, you guessed it they were up at 7am excited to see everyone. More to come...stay tuned! I will update this post when we get back with pics! Hope you all are having a great break so far!
